Sterling effort. GW8 Review

52 points in GW8 keep me in the hunt for the FPL top spot.

GW8 was frustrating for so many FPL managers, with a lot of big players such as Kane and Lukaku failing to find the net. In my GW8 preview last week I talked about Sterling and Batshuayi being possible differentials going into GW8. I took a 4 point hit to transfer them both in, and it was worth it. The transfers gained me 16 points-if you take away the cost of the transfer and the points I would have gained from Salah and Morata, then it works out that my transfers made me 9 points.

Sterling in the points again.

Without a doubt, it was the transfer of Raheem Sterling that saved my GW. The City midfielder registered a goal and two assists, his performance was rewarded with two bonus points, making his total of 15 the highest in GW8. His price is on the rise but he still looks a bargin at £8.1m.

GW highs and lows

David De Gea kept his 7th clean sheet in 8 Premier league matches as Mourinho opted yet again to park the bus at Anfield. The Man United shot stopper is the number one ranked GK in the FPL this season 10 points in front of any other player in his position. He is also ranked 6th overall top point scorer this season.

Davies yet again failed to make an appearance, and with Danny Rose returning from injury; his FPL points could suffer.

Eric Bailly was left out of the Man Utd squad for the second GW running.  We will wait to see if he is fit for the coming GW.

City's incredible attacking returns.

City are on fire at the moment and there can't be a team in world football that are relishing the thought of playing Pep's men.

City have scored 24 goals in the last 5 PL matches.
City 7-2 Stoke
Chelsea 0-1 City
City 5-0 Palace
Watford 0-6 City
City 5-0 Liverpool

City supply 5 of the top 12 scoring players in the FPL this season-Man United 4, Spurs 2 and Chelsea provide the rest of the top 12.
With favourable fixtures these City attacking options could be ones to watch:

Aguero £11.5m  52
Jesus £10.7m  47
De Bruyne £10m  46
David Silva £8.5m  51
Sane £8.4m  47
Sterling £8.1m  50

  1. Hi Matthew, great job you are doing here and kudos for being right in the FPL leadership mix.

My FPL has been in shambles and I am trying to recover. What do you think about this team I just set up for gameweek 9?

    GK: De Gea (sub: Elliott)
Def: Jones, Davies, Naughton, Ward (sub: Mbemba)
Mid: Sterling, Silva, Sane (sub: Carroll, Mooy)
    Ff: Morata, Kane, Vardy

This is going all out on City's midfield.. i previously had only Silva but figured I wanted to get in on their form with 3 players, but felt ManUtd and Spurs defence offered better options, and Morata was most likely performer in Chelsea while Kane is... Kane.

    What do you think?
